The career I want is to be a fashion designer. In this career I can express myself through my work of clothing or accessories. This is an artistic career because you work with shades, shapes, colors, and also textures. The job responsibilities for being a fashion designer are to know how to work certain machines, such as sewing machines, know how to draw prototype or plans to scale, to indentify color or balance, and to use creativity in your work and pieces. Your duties for this job are to analyze sales activities or trends, designed tailored garments, sketch or draw subjects or items, and also to direct and coordinate activities of workers of staff.
A Bachelors of Fine Arts or Associate Degree programs in fashion design offered at colleges, universities, or private art and design schools would help to get into the fashion industry, but a required education is not needed in most companies. A starting salary for this job would be around $20,000 to $30,000. An average or middle salary for this job would be $55,000 to around $60,000. The highest salaries this career can offer are close to $90,000 to around $100,000.
Math and language arts are used a lot in my career. Math is used in every career, but it is used a lot in mine, You need to use math when you measure a piece of fabric, when you need to know how much blue material covers the piece so you know how much to buy, or even when you just need to draw a design down on grid paper. You need to know language arts when you conduct sales presentations, obtain information from clients or customers, or when you need to write down a shipping order. What I can do now is learn how to use a sewing machine and keep taking all my main subjects so I learn more math and social skills. In high school I can take graphic arts, engineering, and computer skill classes so I will be even more prepared.
I chose this career because I love designing things like clothes, houses, jewelry, and landscapes. I feel that this job suits me because I am very creative and always have an open mind to new ideas and thoughts. I do very well and math and also all my other classes. I am a good leader and I encourage others to reach their full potential. Being independent I feel is important, as I am, and I also think that having social skills is important. My career inventory information says that I am artistic, social, and an investigative person, A.S.I.
